Rattu ("the app") turns photos of school notebooks into revision quizzes. It is built and operated by Activate Travel ("we", "us"), based in India. This policy explains what data the app collects, why, and how it is handled.
Rattu accounts belong to a parent or guardian. Children use the app through child profiles inside the parent's account; children do not have their own accounts, logins, or contact details in Rattu. Child profiles contain only a first name/nickname, class, board, and an avatar chosen by the parent.

| Handwritten answers | When your child writes an answer on the screen for Rattu to mark, or photographs answers written in a notebook or on a printed mock paper, the image is uploaded and read by Google Gemini to turn the writing into text, so the answer can be marked the same way as a typed one. | Drawings and answers your child makes | Some questions have no single right answer: they ask your child to draw something, to answer about themselves (for example, a friend's name or a favourite food), or to write a few lines of their own. Rattu does not mark these. What your child draws, types or says for them is stored with your account so you can see it in the parent part of the app. In Class 1 and 2, your child may write an answer about themselves by hand on the screen; that writing is kept as a picture, like a drawing. These drawings and answers are never sent to Google Gemini or any other AI service, and are never used for analytics or advertising. If your child says one of these answers out loud, the speech is turned into text the same way as any spoken answer (see “Speech during practice” below): Rattu keeps only the words, never the recording. A drawing made while the phone is offline waits on the phone until it can be saved. They are kept until your child's school year ends, then deleted automatically. You can remove any of them sooner in the app, and they are deleted with your account (see Retention and deletion). |

| Speech during practice (recitation and spoken quiz answers) | When your child recites aloud or speaks an answer instead of typing it, the words are turned into text so the app can check them, or keep them for you when the question has no single right answer. Two methods are used. Where we offer improved recognition for Indian English, Hindi and Marathi, the audio goes to ElevenLabs, a speech-to-text provider, which returns the text. Usually it streams from the app straight to ElevenLabs while your child speaks; if that connection fails, the same short recording is sent through our servers to ElevenLabs instead. Our servers never store the recording, and Rattu keeps only the text. ElevenLabs processes it under its standard API retention, and we have opted our account out of ElevenLabs using this content to train or improve its models. Otherwise your phone's (or browser's) built-in speech recognition does this; on Android that may send the audio to Google's speech service, and Rattu keeps only the text. Speaking is always optional — your child can type every answer — and no recording is ever used for analytics or advertising. |

We do not collect your location, contacts, or browsing history, and Rattu shows no ads inside the app. We do use analytics to understand usage and to measure our own marketing — see "Analytics and advertising measurement" below.
Scanned images are stored in your account's private storage and sent to a cloud AI service (Google Gemini, with OpenAI as fallback) to read the page and generate questions. These providers process the image to return questions and do not use your content to train their models under the API terms we use. Generated questions are always shown to you for review and editing before they are saved.
Images of the handwritten answers Rattu marks (written on the screen, or photographed from a notebook or a mock paper) are stored in the same private storage and sent to Google Gemini only, which turns the writing into text so the answer can be marked. Gemini does not use this content to train its models under the API terms we use.
Drawings your child makes in the app, and the answers they give to questions with no single right answer (such as questions about themselves), are never sent to Gemini or any other AI service; a spoken answer only goes through the speech-to-text step described above. They are stored in the same private storage only so that you can see them.
We use two analytics tools — Amplitude and Google Analytics for Firebase — to understand how Rattu is used (for example, which features are opened and where people get stuck) so we can improve it. This involves in-app event data, diagnostics, and app-instance identifiers. We do not collect the Android advertising ID, and analytics does not record the device's IP-based location.
Some events — such as sign-ups and subscription purchases — are also shared with Google so we can measure how our own marketing and Google Ads campaigns perform. This is measurement of our advertising; Rattu still shows no ads inside the app, and we never sell your data.

We never sell personal data, and we do not share it with anyone beyond the providers above.
Page photos, drawings and voice recordings (the pages you scan, photos or drawings of your child's handwritten answers, drawings your child makes in the app, and any recording you save in the app) are kept for your child's academic year only, and so are the answers your child gives to questions with no single right answer (see “Drawings and answers your child makes” above). You set the month each child's school year ends in the app (Profile → School year); until you do, we use the end of March for CBSE and ICSE schools and the end of May for other boards. When the year ends (India time), all of these from that year are deleted automatically from our servers, and from the app on your phone. Starting the new school year in the app deletes them straight away and moves last year's chapters to “Past school years”. The quizzes made from them, and your child's scores and progress, stay; picture questions that need the page are no longer played. Memory-trick pictures Rattu draws are kept. Files left behind by a deleted quiz or a failed upload are removed within 30 days.
Everything else is kept while your account is active. You can delete individual scans, questions, child profiles, or anything in your child's “Made by” list, in the app at any time. To delete your whole account, go to Profile → Privacy & data → Delete my account in the app: your profiles, scans, page photos, handwritten answers, drawings, recordings, questions and quiz history are removed from our live systems straight away (if you pay for Rattu, cancel your subscription first; the app shows you where). You can also email support@rattu.app, and we will complete the deletion within 30 days. Payment records are retained as required by tax law. A small number of pages may be kept, with names removed, only to check how accurately Rattu reads pages; these are deleted with your account, or within 90 days at most. Rattu is designed so that the parent controls everything: the parent creates the account, scans the pages, and reviews all generated content. We collect no contact details from children, show no ads, and provide no social features, chat, or public sharing. Quiz activity, drawings and answers linked to a child profile are visible only within that parent's account.
Data is transmitted over HTTPS and stored with per-account access controls (row-level security). Scanned images, handwritten answers and drawings live in private storage folders scoped to your account. AI API keys and payment secrets are held server-side only.
